In addition to this great video showing President Obama reading Where the Wild Things Are to a group of children, Tegan Tigani with The Seattle Book Examiner wrote a wonderful piece with read-aloud tips based on the example set by President Obama.  The tips include:

  • Start with a connection to the book.

  • Point out illustrations.

  • Pause for audience participation.

  • Make Sound effects.

  • Act it out.

  • Encourage the audience to act like the characters.

  • Contextualize and reassure.
